Founding story

It began with a friendship

Mercatura didn't begin with a business plan. It began with a friendship: two technologists, a decade of building ideas together, and one belief about what technology should do for people.

Mercatura didn't begin with a business plan. It began with a friendship. More than a decade before the company existed, two technologists spent their nights building ideas together and debating how technology should actually work for people — the kind of collaboration that teaches you what's worth building.

Between them they bring over thirty years of combined experience across software engineering, enterprise systems, digital transformation, and emerging technologies. One belief runs through all of it: technology should make life easier, not more complicated.

The technology was never the problem. AI's problem wasn't capability. It was packaging.

That belief is what the company was built on. As AI accelerated, they watched small businesses and solopreneurs end up surrounded by powerful tools — but built for teams with the time, budget, and staff to use them.

Two bets, both proved right

In November 2024 they registered Mercatura in Houston, Texas, and started with two bets:

  • STVARA — that creating on-brand content should not require a content team.
  • Praetix — that running a business's social presence should not require an operations department.

Both bets proved right. Both are live products today — small teams could create on-brand content and run their social presence without a team behind them.

Then came a different kind of decision

The next gap wasn't in marketing. It was in the decisions people make before anything gets built — which site is worth a deeper look, and which one isn't. That became LotForma: enter an address and it reads the zoning, sizes the buildable envelope, benchmarks construction cost, and flags the risks, so you can judge which sites deserve a deeper look.

LotForma is in development now as an invite-only pilot, and it describes itself the way we want it to: an early screening aid, not zoning verification or professional advice.

Where that leaves us

Today STVARA and Praetix are both live — serving small businesses, solopreneurs, and local businesses with intelligent tools for marketing and publishing — and LotForma is the product we're building next.

Mercatura is more than a company — it's the culmination of years of friendship, shared vision, and a relentless commitment to building technology that genuinely helps people.

You can read the mission, the timeline, and the values we build by on the About page, or see the products on the products page. The thinking behind that first bet is written up in “AI's problem wasn't capability.”

See what we've been building.
