One insight, two live products, and one in development

Not a new capability, a different package. The insight Mercatura was founded on, and what it looks like in two live products (STVARA and Praetix) and one still in development (LotForma).

Small businesses and solopreneurs are not short on AI. They are surrounded by it. The tools are genuinely powerful, and they were built for teams with the time, budget, and staff to use them.

The distance between what the technology can do and what a one-person business can pick up is where Mercatura builds. Not a new capability. A different package.

The gap wasn't the technology

Nothing about the AI was missing. The packaging was. Enterprise tools arrive as platforms to be administered: users to manage, settings to configure, a dashboard to watch. That is a reasonable shape for an organization with people whose job is running it.

It is the wrong shape for the owner who does the marketing once the customers have gone home. A small business does not need a platform. It needs one concrete job done before tomorrow morning.

What packaging means here

Packaging is not a friendlier name or a cleaner interface. It is choosing one job a small business actually has (making a flyer, keeping social media alive, judging a site before you commit to it) and aiming the same enterprise-grade AI straight at it.

So a packaged tool asks for what the owner already has: a sentence about the business, a photo of the sign, one decision rather than an onboarding session. And it returns something usable, such as a design to export, a batch of posts, or a costed first read on a parcel, instead of a workspace to inhabit.

If software needs an hour of setup before it does anything useful, it was packaged for a team. If it needs a sentence or a photo, it was packaged for you.

Two live products, one in development

Mercatura has two live products and one in development. Each is a package rather than a platform, aimed at one job:

  • STVARA: on-brand content without a content team. Describe your business in a sentence and it turns the idea into a branded flyer, social post, or ad you can edit and export, in your colors and your voice, sized for print, social, and web.
  • Praetix: social publishing without an operations department. One description of your business becomes a batch of ready-to-post content, published to Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn from one place on a smart schedule, with analytics on what's working.
  • LotForma: site screening, in development. Enter an address and it reads the zoning, sizes the buildable envelope, benchmarks construction cost, and flags the risks, so you can judge which sites deserve a deeper look. It is an invite-only pilot, and it says plainly what it is: an early screening aid, not zoning verification or professional advice.

Three jobs, one approach. The capability is not small, the ask is. Two of those packages are live today. The third is the one being built now, and it is not finished.

Where this came from

Mercatura began with a friendship, not a business plan: two technologists who had spent more than a decade building ideas together, and one belief that ran through all of it. Technology should make life easier, not more complicated. In November 2024 they registered the company in Houston, Texas, and started with two bets: that creating on-brand content should not require a content team, and that running a social presence should not require an operations department. Both proved right; both are live products today.

The third bet came later, and from a different kind of decision: whether a site is worth pursuing at all. That is LotForma, the same insight applied to land instead of marketing, and still in development as an invite-only pilot.

AI's problem wasn't capability. It was packaging.

A practical way to start

  • Name the job, not the tool. "Make this weekend's flyer" is a job. "Grow the business" is a project with no end, and no software can be judged against it.
  • Test it on work you already have. A real flyer, a real week of posts, a real address. The question is whether it helps with something on your list today.
  • Judge the output, not the dashboard. The measure is a file you can use, or a week of posts that went out.

Where to start

This was never about smaller AI. It is the same capability, aimed at one job at a time, for businesses that were never going to hire a team to administer it.

stvara.io and praetix.io are live today. lotforma.com is in development as an invite-only pilot, with no public signup and no launch date to announce. Start with the job you keep putting off.

If you want the shorter version of the argument, it is in “AI's problem wasn't capability.” If you are deciding whether a tool deserves a half hour at all, the questions are in “What to ask before you adopt another AI tool.” And LotForma's status is kept current on the products page, with the reasoning behind the pilot in “Why LotForma is a pilot.”

See what we've been building.

STVARA and Praetix are live today, built for small businesses, solopreneurs, and local businesses.
